Upgrade/Dividers/Cycling?

Hey!
How do you all make dividers? I am going to be getting a 15 gallon tank at the end of next week And want to divide it into 3 sections for my boys!

How do you all make your dividers? I would love some tutorial! Preferably with craft mesh as it is wicked cheap

Also, do I NEED substrate to cycle a tank? I want to do a pure ammonia cycle.

What would be the BEST filter to get for a divided 15 gallon tank? It must be SUPER quiet and be able to be found in Ontario

I will be only be able to answer the cycling question, yeah you do.

Bacteria not only colonize in the filter but also on tank walls, decor, and substrate, so if you want a more successful cycle, I suggest some sort of substrate.

I thought that might be the case! Thanks

I used the craft mesh to divide my 10 gallon 3-way. I cut the mesh within one square of being a perfect fit. Grabbed some straws and attempted to put a straight cut down one side. (the straighter the easier it slides on) Then I slid the straws over the ends of he mesh so it stays flush with the glass. It also gives it a way to dig it into the gravel. I had my by melt holes into the plastic rim up top and we attached the mesh to the top with a bit of wire. I just make sure never to fill it up past the straws, or to the wire.

Ohhh awesome! I like this idea, as I wouldn't need to use aquarium glue Much easier. I'll have to try this!

I just successfully completed a cycle of my 5gal bare-bottom tank in twelve days using some cycled gravel. I used two filters (because I had them) and extra filter foam. Now I have one filter with extra foam around it. My cycle is stable so far,

Good luck finding any. I used about a fingertip-sized piece of frozen salmon (didn't have any shrimp) wrapped in nylon mesh and affixed to the filter intake, but only because I couldn't find pure ammonia. I will be ordering some Dr. Tim's pure ammonia from Amazon for my next cycle.

Thanks Hallyx!

Going to attempt at cycling as well as making dividers.

Does anyone know if it is safe to have a female in a divided tank with 2 males?
