please recommend me your favorite betta food and 5gal heater

Just got this little guy yesterday!

He's a very small double tail male. The pellets i have are to large for him to eat he just spits them out for awhile then gives up and they are fogging up his tank.

I don't trust store bought food so I want to order something really good from Amazon or eBay.

I also included a picture of his 5gallon tank so someone could recommend me a good heater that will keep him warm since its around 75F ambient in my house.

I want him to live happy and healthy for a long time, so please recommend your favorite stuff.

Hey just a heads up the pictures are REALLY big, some people can't read the text if it is super big.

I would recommend New Life Spectrum or Omega One, they both last a long time so the price is worth it. I feed New Life Spectrum and no one refuses it.

A cheap yet but good heater is The Elite 50 watt heater. Another one that I strongly suggest is the Aqueon Pro 50 watt heater. They are both adjustable which helps with diseases and so forth. If you are getting a heater you need a thermometer. The marinara glass one on Amazon is really cheap but still accurate, it is like $2-3.

If the water level is really high and there is no lid - be careful he does not jump out.

I personally think Hikari Betta Bio Gold is the best bang for your buck - very nutritious for your boy. But it's all a matter of preference. (:

My staple food for my boys is HBH Betta Bites, and my boys seem healthy and happy. I also do one fasting day a week, and the (very) occasional freeze dried mysis shrimp.

I'm thinking of getting another brand like New Life Spectrum, Hikari, or whatever other quality brand I can find.

As for heaters, I have several different types. I have a couple of the "pre-set" variety (Aqueon & Hydor) and a couple adjustable ones (Hydor and Unknown).

For a heater, use a 25 watt submersible. Remember it's 5 watts per gallon.

As for food. Yikes. I feed so many different things. I use Atison Pro for the most part and frozen blood worms. Since I hatch a lot of baby brine shrimp I give the adults some too. Mix it up a lot. Bettas need good nutrition.

Hikari changed their ingredients, it is not as quality as it use to be. Now it is easily the same quality, as in protien and all that, as Tetra. Yeah it is not as good as it use to be. It is alright but certainly not the best.

I plan on buying at least one more kind of food later (omega one) and alternating between them.

bought him a thing to hide in and a lid for his tank aswell.

now can anyone recommend me a good water conditioner for 5 gallons? i plan on switching 2 gallons weekly and i used jugs of spring water but want to make sure all the nutrients are there for him.
