Unhappy Please help me!!!

This is what happened to me. I was going out today like around 3 but before I left I turned off my tanks lights so my plants get a break and when I did my neons just went nuts and got really stressed out I still left them like that. When I came back at like 7 the neons had lost all their color and looked stressed almost like they were going to die. Has this happen to anybody before?? But my betta and my shrimp were fine by the way.

Thank you in advance

get some cheap led nightlights. i have two of them back to back on an extension cord. that way you can turn off the hoodlights and your fish have some light
