The close fins might be fin clamp. Wait about 6 weeks then pick up some Aquarium Salt from a local pet store.

He is very pretty! His tank seems a bit small though. How big is it?

He may be clamping because Betta fish do not like air stones....The prefer still water....Also, I don't see a heater....What is the temp on the tank? He sure is a handsome Crowntail though....

Also I just assume the tank is the right temp for right now. :s I got a 10 gallon tank in my bedroom and that doesnt have a heater in it either but has a temp gauge on it and the water feels the same in Scarlets tank like it does in my 10 gallon tetras tank which reads like 76 degres.

Do yourself and your new fishy boy and get yourself a bigger tank (2.5 gallons is ideal), a thermometer and a heater. 76 is an okay temp, but it needs to be consistant and not drop too much at night.

Your boy will become MUCH more active in a bigger tank with warmer water. 78-80F is where I like to keep my tanks

He is beautiful!
