Feeding

I've had Finn for a little over 3 months now and I feed him 3 pellets a day, once a day, and then fast him once a week. Is that okay?

You can give him a little more a day, I give mine 5-7 spread out throughout the day. I cannot resist their begging so spreading it out helps me stop from overfeeding them

3 twice a day is good. I only fast my betta occasionally, maybe once every 2 weeks.

I personally give 2, twice a day, with one fast day, but the pellets I have vary in size where some are a little larger, while other's are smaller, so occasionally I'll drop in a 3rd pellet.

Oh, and my Petco king, and the new baby giant (thanks EvilVOG!) get more, or more frequent feedings, but I also base those feedings on the size of the individual pellets, and the particular fish.

I think it's a matter of "what works for you." But that's just my opinion. Over all I think under feeding is better that over feeding, but I could be wrong.

Hopefully someone with more experience will chime in.

Well how can you tell if your fish is too thin? If he isn't thin, then I don't have to worry

You know, that's a good question! I wish I knew specifically. For myself I try to take a good look as they turn to check that they have some flesh but aren't too big.

I think the over feeding has a little more to do with resultant water quality than the betta actually getting fat? I dunno, I'm guessing based on what I've learned here and other sites.

I would think of he's been doing ok, and doesn't look super thin or heavy, then you're probably going a good job.

Hmm....well how do you think this looks?

I know it's kinda blurry, but its the picture with the best angle to determine how thin he is...
