I use the tubs to keep my jars warm by adding water around the jars, and put the heater in to warm the water.

Styrofoam can leak. Not worth it. Just buy a big plastic tub or tank.

I have thought of this too, but what do you use for lighting? Just room light? How about a cover? I have a fish room that is heated to 80 deg, so this is a possiblilty. I have thought about 5 gallon pails like the best breeder in the world uses (hehe), but they are a bit small for grow out.

Thanks,
Jeff.

Not sure also how the polystyrene would affect the fish.

Styrofoam itself won't harm them (I use it in my tanks as hiding places and nest anchors.

I have a few 66 quart plastic tubs as grow out and I use 16 quart ones for spawning.

I have a lot of sunlight coming in from two glass doors. I would have more but algae was becoming an issue so I had to cover up a big window. I have a few tanks with lights and one room light. I'm really working on getting some lighting units for my shelves as well.

Mine is in a room that houses my snake, so they get some light from that, and some light from the window. It's enough light for them.

These big tubs usually come with a lid, mine did. Although putting 20-25 gallons of water in it made it stretch so the lid doesn't completely cover. I cover the gap with a plastic grocery bag because it was handy and it retains humidity pretty good.
