Is a Marineland Canister Filter Magnum 350 too much for a 40 gallon tank?

Same as title just found one for $80.

You really can't have too much filtration. Some of the canister filters people put on planted nano tanks is insane.

As long as the flow is acceptable for the livestock you are housing, a bigger filter generally provides a lot more surface area for beneficial bacteria to colonise, and depending on your inflow/outflow system can keep water circulating and prevent dead spots.

It's apparently a lot of filter; good for up to 100 gallons, capable of filtering 350 gph, so like was already mentioned take that into consideration.

Some of the reviews I read said it was rather challenging to put together, but has some great features & they love it.

Sounds like a nice find.

I honestly don't know.

I have a filter for "up to 20 gallons" on two of my 5 gallons & my boys seem fine. But the filter has an adjustable flow so I have it set low.
