Fin Rot or Cut?

Hi, My new fish has a small hole in the middle of his tail. I put a new fake plant in his tank yesterday! Is this the start of fin rot or just a small cut for the new plant? He also has some discoloured marks on his face (same on both sides) which when i brought him they were there. Is this anything to worry about or just marks from birth? Thanks and sorry for all the questions, i am new to looking after Betta's!

How often do you perform a water change? once to twice a week
What percentage of the water do you change when you perform a water change? 50 - 75 percent
What type of additives do you add to the water when you perform a water change? water conditioner

Can you post a picture? If it is a small hole I would be more inclined to say that it may be fin rot, in my experience cuts usually occur at the end of the fins and they tend to be rather larger than what you have described

The hole is probably to small to see in a photo! if it is fin rot it is in the early stages because that is the only symptom that i can see. How can i treat the problem? Thanks

I would say an AQ salt bath, I think the formula is 1TSP/Gal, if you caught it really early your boy will probably only need the one salt bath, what I will also say is LOTS of water changes!If it gets any worse then try Maracyn

Okay, thanks so much! how do i do saltwater treatment? i know the formula but how long should i leave him in the salwater and should i use a different tank?
