Advice to increase Betta community compatibility
Hello, I recently relocated one of my three German Blue Rams(female) from my 20 gallon tank to my 10 gallon with a koi plakat Betta and an assassin snail, as the other two rams had formed a pair. Over the past week or so it's been fine, minimal aggression since the GBR stays near the bottom in the plants and the betta hangs out at the top of the tank. The worst aggression has gotten is really slow chasing a couple of times, but seeing as the GBR's a cichlid about the size of the betta if not larger, more agile, and indifferent to the betta's behavior, I don't see any major problems developing. Neither of them seem to be stressed, so I think everything's going fine.
But, just in case, I'd like some tips for keeping aggression as low as possible. My only idea right now is to add more tall plants to break up lines of sight, are there any other steps I could take to reduce general aggression?
Also, the times that there has been aggression or chasing it's always around feeding. The GBR isn't the quickest eater, and although the betta never ends up eating her food, so she hasn't been underfed, he still likes to hang out around her food and chase her a bit whenever I feed the GBR. What methods can I use to get the betta to leave the GBR's food alone?
