Betta vs. Shrimp

Okay, here's how it is. I've been turning my 2.5 gallon mini bow into a little walstad planted tank...slowly. Originally, I was planning to stock it with shrimp. However, everytime I walk past the bettas at the pet store, there's this little voice in my head that goes, "Hmm. 2.5 gallons. That's enough room for another betta..." So, what do y'all think? Betta or shrimpies? Anyone have any experience putting either in a heavily planted tank?

I would always go for the betta but I also don't have any experience with shrimp. They could be great but if I have the right size tank available it is going to have a betta in it! :)

19 males all but 1 in 5 gal tanks
1 giant in a 16 bowfront
52 female sorority, 15 raspboras, 6 corydora sterbia and BN pleco in a 72 gallon

Other tanks - 135 gallon african cichlids, 48 breeder SA cichlid, 30 gallon hex goldfish, 30 gallon community fish and shrimp tank, 12 gallon hex growout

2 Chihuahuas, 2 1/2 lab 1/2 weim dogs and 2 cats
1 Husband and 1 3 year old princess

If a walstand tank is basically a NPT, then you could do both. Just make sure you have enough plants to take care of the ammonia and for the shrimps to hide in, and you'll be set :D . Just make sure you add the shrimp once the tank is completely set up and stable so that there are no unstable water params to kill them. So long as your betta isn't the agressive (and hungry) sort, they should be fine.

ha ha ha ha i agree with JK
my partner suggested both and if u go to a local creek grab a handfull of leaves outta the water, they will provide little critters for the shrimps to eat and a place for them to hide
