Help me, I'm awkward.

Okay, so I get really nervous when I know I have to call somewhere like a doctor or a question for a company. I'm afraid I'll say the wrong thing and wind up in a pickle. So tomorrow morning I'm calling the LFS and asking if they'll buy my mystery snails (and maybe betta fry in the future) but I don't know how I should phrase it. "Do you buy stock from local breeders?" I'm afraid something will come out along the lines of "Yes, hello. Lovely potato. Good day!" Does anyone have experience selling to LPS? I also have no idea how much I should get for them if they will buy them from me. They are pea sized purple mystery snails, some with a yellow foot, some with dark gray/purple. I appreciate any feedback/advice/experience you might be willing to share with me!

Also, how much for young bettas? I want to sell them when they are in between Petco baby betta and adult sizes.

Write it down and follow it like a script.

You,
Hello my name is kitkat I live in the area and am a breeder of Mystery snails and Bettas and was wondering "Do you buy stock from local breeders?"

LSF
No we dont.

You.
Ok thank you very much for your time, Do you by chance happen to know anybody who does?

Or

LSF
Yes we will happily buy from a local breeder.

You.

Thats great, Do you mind if I pop in with a few samples and if you like what you see we can discuss it further. EG price ETC.

I completely understand. I am a very shy person and I HATE talking on the phone, it's so awkward. I'm always afraid that I won't be able to hear them and have to say, what, repetitively. So don't worry, you aren't alone.

I'm really shy as well, and a total nerd. Once I took a science class and I was so excited that I blurted something that was totally incorrect and really stupid. I think NickAU's idea is a really good one.

NickAu's idea is great!

I usually rehearse in my head what I want/wish to say a few times before I call people or ask any type of stranger anything. Listening to the ring tone is the worst part but once they pick up, it's not so bad.

You'd think I'd get used to talking on the phone what with my last job being at a call centre... nope!!!!

Second time they told me to call back again because their boss wasn't in when he was supposed to be....I think they had a mutiny and locked the boss in the supply room and I will never be able to sell my snails and bettas.

Oh, wow, I need to brush up on my people skills....or just get some people skills to begin with.

I called on Friday, Monday, and Tuesday. On Tuesday they took down my name, number, and reason for calling to leave for their manager. No call from him yet, so I was advised by my sister to call today, and I did, the kid that I spoke with the previous days suddenly bombarded me with questions about prices, even on the betta fish I briefly mentioned--saying it would be easier, even though he previously said he did not handling buying from breeders-- I stammered about the bettas not old enough where I can tell what prices I want for them and for the snails I said 1/3 or 1/4 retail price but I didn't know how much their store would sell them. Oh, it was a disaster. They said he would be in tomorrow but they've been saying that for a week and he hasn't been in yet so I don't know if it would be a waste to come in and talk to him personally with a few sample snails. This is so frustrating, I think it would have been easier to set up paypal and sell online. The snails are now nickel-sized and still growing.

Is there another store you can speak to? Doesn't seem like they're particularly interested or doing a good job of following up.

I've been getting that feeling too. From the couple times I've been there I noticed they did not carry snails, so I thought they might be interested. I actually don't have any other LFS in driving distance except for Petco/Petsmart. Everything else is dog grooming. I just wish I could get to the LFS near my school, they were really excited to buy the snails but they are too far away. I will call petco.
