As the title states....Just happen to have an empty 5 gallon Mini-bow, filter, 25 watt heater, unused (extra) silk plants, hide out decorations, Betta food, water conditioner, etc. Well....7 pounds of gravel and 1 aquarium thermometer later......It's a tiny girl...in her very own 5 gallon mansion...I must admit in all of my years of fish keeping this tiny girl is a new one on me. I have never owned a female Betta in my life. She was just too tiny and sweet to pass up...I had to have her. Right now she is in her 5 gallon in a seperate room away from my guy's tank. Eventually, I will move her and her tank right next to my guy's tank. During the rest of their lives they will only be able to view each other through her acrylic tank and my guy's glass tank. They are not a breeding pair and never will be. I did let my guy look at her while she was still in the cup. My mom said "look he is making himself look fluffy for her." Ha..Ha..Ha..Yea, mom they do that once in awhile....On another note: I just wanted to cry at looking at all of the Bettas in Walmart....So, there is my happy and sad story for the day..

Yayy did you name her yet?? Thankfully here in the pet stores they dont keep bettas in tiny cups but together with other (compatible) fish in proper sized tanks :D but makes me sad to think that some bettas r kept in tiny cups for sometimes a long period of time in shops like walmart :(

An update on my tiny girl....Elvira..Ha..Ha...Queen of the dark. My girl actually was looking quite ugly (not colorful, no color, bland) in her cup at the store. I knew that she would die in that cup because most everyone (unless they know what they are looking at/for/or know about fish) would pass on her. I asked a Walmart employee if I could take her and her cup outside in their Garden area and look at her briefly in natural light. The lady looked at me like I had 3 heads and then said sure. After briefly inspecting her, I knew she would color nicely given the proper conditions. I am pleased to announce that she is very colorful and extremely healthy. This is after 1 tiny feeding of New Life Spectrum extra small pellets. The other feeding that she received this morning was just a very tiny piece of Sera Brand protein color flake. Also, she has the proper living conditions. I also know that I am not going to move her tank from the current location it is in. I am going to leave her tank in a different room away from my male. The reason: I placed a Christmas ornament outside of my guy's tank to look at. He went crazy looking at it. So, my experiment with moving her tank ended with the Christmas ornament viewing. Whew...sorry about the novel..but, I know there are some new people on the forum keeping fish and whatever information can be given can help others in this hobby.

Aw, how cute. I wish you'd post photos! She sounds like a sweetie. It's so much fun watching them color up, isn't it? C:
