I have my Bettas in a 20 gallon divided tank. I just went and fed them. When I dropped the food in the first section the betta from the second pushed on the divider and somehow squeezed through it. The divider is flush against the tank!!! I don't know how to get it any tighter! Smart little dude to push on it enough to move it and squeeze through. What can I do to insure this doesn't happen again? Thankfully I was able to get the little dude out and I moved him over to the other divided part of the tank that is empty but still... he might do it again!

You might try to push your substrate up a bit higher towards divider just to give additional stability at bottom. Another thing I have tried to to put more plants at divider line to help block it. Bettas are resourceful! It is amazing what they can squeeze through or jump out of! Glad everyone ok.

My divider is homemade with two layers of craft mesh, fishing line, and binder spines. I also use these https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00W.../d/B00WW71QEI/ref=pd_aw_sim_sbs_199_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=504W3CMG4SH503CFWPFE at the top and the bottom to hold it in place. It was a royal pain to get everything in place, but it feels secure. I also purchased decorative aquarium rocks and placed them along the bottom on both sides. And I have tall, cloth plants on both sides to hopefully help break up line of sight. If you zoom in on my picture, you should be able to see my suction cup divider holders.
