Introducing Owen!

I just got a new boy today. According to the cup he was in at PetCo, he's a Black Orchid. I think he's a double tail. I'm not sure, though. I just set up the tank today, so the pictures aren't great. There's bubbles all over the glass right now, and Owen doesn't know that he's gotta person to parade for yet. So I wasn't able to get terribly good pictures of him. But here's the pictures I did manage to get. The first is just the tank without Owen in it. The second picture is Owen in his cup. It was the only one I was able to get that showed his colors at all. Otherwise he just looks black. The third picture is him in his tank. Like I said, not really good pictures, but you get the idea lol.

The tank isn't complete yet. I still need to pick up a background tomorrow when I go to Petsmart. And I'd really like to get an air pump and bubble wand for him. I like the looks of a bubble wand, and the extra oxygenation that it gives the tank. I intend on giving him some tank mates in the future, so it'll help them. Although, it'll be a while before I add any friends for him. I gotta see what his personality is like first and give the tank time to settle.

He's a lovely bi-color but not a Black Orchid. As best I can describe it, a Black Orchid is sold dark black with steel blue running through its fins. If the black and white were in equal portions he would be called a Butterfly instead of bi-color. Can't tell if he's a double tail from the photos. If he were, his caudal would have distinct double lobes.

BTW, it would help if you would embed instead of linking as many members don't have the ability to follow a link and easily return to the Forum. Especially if you're anal like me and have to check and double check to make sure the information you're giving is correct.

I think he is double tail. It's hard to tell because he's not flaring open very much, but his fins have a pattern that suggest a double tail. It's like mirrored from the center of his tail outward in one direction and then the other. Maybe once he gets more settled I'll be able to get better pictures.

I'll keep in mind embedding pictures instead of linking to my own server. I just wanted to make the best possible quality pictures available, and I'm not sure how to embed the pictures so that they're the same quality as my camera. Can I embed pictures that are hosted on my server? I'm not very good at message boards lol.

Click on "Go Advanced" and then either the paper clip on the tool bar or "Manage Attachments." This allows you to post from your server. However, unfortunately, if you ever delete the photos the Forum loses them, too.

I don't know about reproduction quality if directly embedded.

If he's a Double Tail his caudal will be split into separate lobes. Image from BettySplendens.com - Betta Splendens - Halfmoon, Crowntail, Doubletail, Plakat
