So, I did a thing...

I purchased a vey small betta at Petco. Yeah, I know, but the Petco local to me actually has pretty decent looking stock.

It's supposed to be a male, so I named him Bob (pronounced in my head they way Mr Bean says it, lol). We brouht him home and warmed his little cup up (he was cold), and set up the little Fluval edge aquarium that's been sitting in my basement for a while. Used water and filter media from my 80 gallon community tank, so we should be ready to move him in shortly. We also added IAL, and we have some really nice tannin color in there. I'll also take a couple of the floating plants out of my big tank for this little guy.

His color has improved a lot overnight, and he ate like a chow hound for me. I'll get some pix later when the lights come on.

This post makes me very happy for the little guy. I'm sure he will give endless beauty and pleasure.

I can never run down a box store. Not every Petco is the same, and not every one of them is run the same from the pets point of view. My two local Petco's are one in Erie PA., and the other in Butler PA. Over an hours drive from my home. The one in Erie I list on their web site as my store. (the one in Butler might be closer ) The one in Erie Is the same size, but is laid out differently. The fish department is larger and so very much cleaner. I'm sorry I can't say the same for Butler. The fish and pants in Erie look much healthier and I'm not afraid of buying from them. I can't say the same for Butler. Their tanks (each time I have been in the store) have plants that are dying. there is dead loss in the tanks. It's the care they receive in each store. It's the manager and employees that make the difference.

As for your new little charge I wish you all the best.

Thanks!

We just moved him into his new home. He seems pretty interested in his new surroundings, giving everything the once over. He doesn't have much in the way of plant life (yet), because most of the stuff in my 80 is just too big for this little tank. He does have a big honkin' almond leaf that he seems to like to sit under.

We originally bought this tank to house a salt water mantis shrimp that hitchhiked on some live rock from Indonesia. I didn't have the heart to dispose of him, so we bought him this little tank to grow out in, then rehomed him when he got big enough to travel. Since then, it's been sitting empty, so we gave it a good scrub down (RO water only) to prep for Bob.

He has a lot of personality already. I came home from work to find him sleeping on his almond leaf (lights off during the day). He did get a little pouty during his water change, though.

Well, Bob is growing pretty well, he eats like a pig!! We got him a couple shrimp, and some tiny little pencil fish for company, and after a day or so of him following them all around, he seems to not mind his tankmates. I wanted to get a pic, but he's feeling a bit camera shy tonight.

In my avatar? That's Charlie, my first boxer. I saved him when he was a puppy, and he was my best boy. I lost him 7 years ago when his spinal issues got to be too difficult for him. I still miss him every day.
