Coming back to bettakeeping!

Earlier this year, I said goodbye to my betta, Sir Arthur. I used to post on here about Sir Arthur back in 2015/2016 I think it was? Either way, I've decided to come back to the wonderful world of bettas and remembered how awesome this site was. I'm looking forward to welcoming another betta into my heart and home!

I've been looking into tank options as my old tank got lost in storage when I moved, plus I figured this time around, I've got more experience with bettas and planted tanks! Currently I'm thinking I'll get something between 5 to 10 gallons and am just in the phase of doing my research/browsing online.

Either way, I don't know if anyone on here recognizes my username or anything but I just wanted to say that I've returned and am looking forward to sharing my new betta adventures with you all!

Welcome back!

Keep us posted on your journey to set up a tank and get another Betta.

Do you have any idea of what you want or do you, like I, buy what appeals?

Thank you! Was happy to see you were still around, you were alway so helpful!

And I'm not quite sure yet. I really am drawn to getting a Fluval Spec V but the price point for those is a bit high and I keep convincing myself that I could get a 10 gallon starter kit for half the price of that from petsmart. I thought the TopFin Retreat tank looked neat too (the five gallon version) but I've heard people had issues with the filter. I guess a new filter wouldn't be the end of the world, but since its already built in on that one, would bulk up the tank.

So, I've got lots of decisions to make!

I believe it is less expensive to buy a PetCo 5.5 and start from scratch. Most kits don't include heaters so you have to factor that in to the total cost. And if you start from scratch you have the equipment you want so don't have to replace.

I believe my 5.5 tanks cost around $75 which included a Finnex Stingray light and Hydor heater. Thing is, my 10 gallon cost about the same.

That's awesome! Which filter are you using or do you have any suggestions? I think my main hesitation with making my own was that from what I've seen online, lids/hoods and lights were a bit pricy and I also have no idea what filter I'd want to use. I'll look into the light for sure, and I've heard good things about the hydor heaters!

10 Gallon Tank: $15

Canopy: $12.00:

https://www.liveaquaria.com/product/...3829+3831+5355

I believe the Aqueon works for PetCo tanks

Heater: $25 Hydor or Enheim 75-100 Watt

https://www.fishtanksdirect.com/hydo...r-hy00035.aspx

https://www.ebay.com/itm/HYDOR-THEO-...-/163007901493

Filter: $15-$26 I use the AquaClear but have also used the Forenza.

Power Filters (HOB)

Finnex StingRay: $37

Finnex Stingray LED Fixture: 20 Inch

I think total is around $100 but you can search and find any of the above cheaper, I am sure. And the $15 Forenza will filter a 10 is you don't overstock. Interestingly, there's very little saving between the 5.5 and 10 in total cost. The StingRay is $2.00 less for the 5.5 gallon size.

Wow, thank you so much! Happy to see you're still around on here and just as helpful as you were in the past! Definitely will be looking into all of these some more. I just felt I had no idea where to start with a filter so this gives me some good ideas!

You are more than welcome. I found the AquaClear on eBay for a bit less.
