The angel of my lost fish... Crazy story...

I'm not one to believe in spiritual type things... but I had to share this story. I think you betta lovers would appreciate it....

So last week on Tuesday, I lost my favorite betta fish. He had been sick for a while (he had a tumor) and it slowly wore him down over a couple of months. I'd had him for over 2 years, so he could've just been the natural end of his life since he was probably almost a year when I got him.

I was very in love with him, so you can imagine I was upset about his passing. He died on Tuesday and I buried him in my backyard Tuesday night.

The next day at work, I went out to pick up my lunch (I work in NYC). As I am walking back to the office with my lunch, I spot a Petco betta container placed off to the side on the sidewalk! (There is a Petco a few doors down). At first I just figured someone had bought some marimo moss balls or anubias plants and threw out the container, but upon closer inspection, I noticed a fish moving in the container! Someone had abandoned a betta fish on the street! Inside the container was a beautiful white opal male fish.

At first I was hesitant to take in a new fish so soon after my other fish died... I wanted a little break. But then I figured it was an omen. I was having such a terrible day ... and this little guy popped up and I had to change my mood.

So strange how life happens. Some people actually don't believe my story because it's so bizarre... who finds an abandoned fish on the sidewalk?? and who finds it the day after their favorite fish died?! And the fish is pure white!

Here he is pictured below.. in perfect condition too. I decided to name him Casper... bc he's like a little ghost.. but a good ghost! he'll be moving into a 5 gallon tank soon.. this is just his temporary 2.5 gallon spot

haha yeahh =) I'm happy to have him. I used to think there would never be another fish as special as my last fish... but this fish has a pretty special story.

First of all, I am a brand new betta fish owner (nice 2 meet you) and I can only imagine how sad you'd be after losing your little guy to a tumour and/or old age. I do believe in spirituality or at least some things in life are just meant to be. And yeah, what are the odds of someone actually abandoning such a gorgeous pure white betta (like a white angel) on the street like that?

It was clearly meant to be and this fish maybe needed you as much as you needed him.

I do think our pets find us....It's happened to me many times with cats and dogs. Life's random and this was a beautiful story. Thank you so much for sharing. I feel so happy you took him home and I love his very appropriate name. I look forward to future photos of your little rescue fish xoxo best wishes from Toronto, Canada.

Wow, that is a wonderful happening. I wonder who would throw that great looking fish out?

Thanks everyone for replying.

Yes it is such a weird story. My guess is that someone may have forgotten the fish. Maybe they were carrying lots of bags (its a big shopping area where I found him) and they stopped on the sidewalk for a minute to reorganize their bags and then meant to pick the fish up last, but forgot it?

The person had also clearly switched the lid on the fish container and probably did not pay what the fish was worth in Petco ($20). The lid was for a "baby girl" which only cost about $3.

I got him into his real home this weekend.... here it is. Super happy with how it turned out.
