He? She? ideas?

Hello, long time no talk. I posted some pictures of my new bettas in Betta Pictures, but had some questions on this one. I did the no no and got her cause she looked sick with red gills and too big for the little cup they had her in and I felt sorry for her (it). She was listed as a male, but I felt like she is a girl, no knowledge to back that up! Your help appreciated on that score. The collage shows the top pic when I got her pale, but so endearing. The place I rescued her from has a sign saying "No Heater Required!" Grrrrrr. The water was cloudy and yellow, (shiver, sick up). She is doing much better and has colored up dramatically. She is way too long for a regular Betta. Could she be a King? What color would you call her? What else could anyone say about her? I named her Crystal Blue. She is a very active, inquisitive creature. Her gills still look red, but perhaps this is because of her coloring? I have had her not quite 3 weeks now. Any suggestions appreciated!

Small fins suggest female. And I think I see egg spot in pict #2 and #3. . . . Female

Kings/giants are supposed to have a minimum body of 5.5 cm (a little over 2").

I don't keep up with new commercial names. All I can say is she is a marble.

Red/pinkish gills are normal. Hers look fine.

As indjo said, "King" Betta should be 2" body-only so measure from tip of nose to base of caudal fin.

She's a real cutie.

Thanks, I think she is my favorite (at least today). Ok, so I asked her to hold still so I could measure her... I held the tape up to the glass and her nose is about 1/8" I finally came close and she is about 1 3/4" body length, but is very young yet. Is the 2" for adult size? Given how big my male King is and he is just a baby still (but quite a bit older than she is), she will easily get over 2". She is about 4 times as long as she is wide, as long or longer right now than any of my other females, even the year old ones. I honestly thought she was a reject when I got her! She is so much fun. I seem to be drawn to the girls almost more than the boys... wonder why? (Same with dogs, but I know why that is!) I gave up on any sorority after the 2nd one failed spectacularly with 2 dead and a mad rush to separate the survivors. But I really enjoy the ladies. Thank you for the information. Do tail types remain the same with Kings?

It's body size that makes a king betta, they come in all tail types.

She's a pretty girl and I know you'll have fun watching her marble. Take lots of pictures to keep track of the changes.
