The issue was that it was a bowl, which can actually blind Bettas

I feel like I can't win against my plants(java fern) that need to be tied down to something. Tried rubber bands, thread, sticking them into the nook and crannies of the driftwood and just tried zip-ties. I had tied down two plants to the driftwood, but trimming the ties were a pain and now there's two sharp edges in my tank. One plant is now just a rhizome and accidentally trimmed the nearby val. Chances are the zip-ties I've grabbed at Home Depot today aren't meant for what I had in mind, should had just stuck to getting aquarium safe superglue. Maybe I'm just being a dumb dumb idiot and just doing it all wrong.

On the plus side, Ghost is in the 2.5 not the 10 gallon(trying to treat his fins again).

Zaz, most of my java fern is free floating. I have two anubias white that I threaded the roots through the holes of my cholla driftwood. I had a bunch of java fernlets that I super glue gel-led to the nooks in my other cholla. I bought regular super glue gel, had the exact same ingredient as aquarium super glue gel. A couple of other java ferns are held down by suction cup rings, i threaded the roots and rhizome through the ring and stuck them to the side or back glass.

It is extremely important when making such claims that they be proven true. Please cite any study which establishes beyond any doubt that bowls can cause Betta to go blind. A lot of people keep Betta in bowls and proof should go beyond opinions or anecdotal claims. Thank you.

The shape of the bowls disorientates them, google it and you'll find many cases of it happening. If you know someone keeping a Betta in a bowl, stop them. Chances are they aren't big enough.

I will repeat: There are no studies which support the above statement or that bowls cause fish to go blind. Anecdotal "evidence" found via Google is not proof; too often it is based on opinion, flawed logic, anthropomorphism or misinterpretation/mislabeling of behavior.

If you wish to continue with the inappropriateness of bowls or "Bowls=Blind" the Rant thread is not the place. Instead, start a new new one in Bowls and Habitats or Betta Chat.

To other members or lurkers: If your Betta is in a bowl or other curved or cylindrical aquarium please do not fear your Betta will go blind, will become disoriented or is in an inappropriate home.

I feel your pain.. My deaths come in spurts. If one dies, another follows not long after, usually they're from completely different things too. :/ It happens.

Check out my journal - SIP to all of the Bettas I've lost

That used to be me. I will say bettas in particular seem especially prone to sickening and dying all at once.

Whether it's coincidence or not, since I stopped purchasing any new fish, and quarantined those I did buy for a month or more, the rate of disease and death in my fish room dropped very dramatically. I also stopped making any drastic changes to my tanks in terms of stocking, set-up, water chemistry etc.

With this hobby sometimes it feels like you get to the point where things are going so well, you expect some big disaster to be looming on the horizon.
