Jean-Luc has gone from us

Jean-Luc was our intrepid explorer, making his way bravely across the world from Thailand into our home, but he was already in our hearts for a long while before we could welcome him into the beautiful tank ready and waiting for him ... and he will remain there, nestled in our aching hearts for eternity.

We wish that he could have stayed in our aquarium for so much longer. Tragically, we could only hold onto him for three nights, before he leapt, in exuberant investigation of his new surroundings, through a tiny opening in the tank cover.

You have taught us a vital lesson, Jean-Luc. Thank you for that, and your beauty, and your feistiness, and your courage. We will miss you forever.

Aquarium
I am really sorry for the loss :(
Unfortunately, bettas can leap, it's part of their nature.
Just remember when you get your next boy, make that hole safer for him.

Again, sorry for your loss.

Thank you for your sympathy. It really helps when people understand the pain.

Yes, for sure they are jumpers and I'm getting the lid fixed up to line up tight with the tank. It really shocked me because I had a betta who passed away from old age a few years ago in that same tank -- with an even larger gap between the lid and the tank -- and she never jumped like that. I'm wondering if boys tend to jump more? I really thought it was way too small for him to get through. :(

I'm really heartbroken and determined to never let this happen again.
