Welcome from another Portlander. (Canby actually) I also recently just got my first boy from Aquabid, and have a second one that I bought being shipped in about a week. I hear the wallet crunch, I have spent almost $500 so far on my first betta. Wowsers. But I absolutely love him and he's worth it.

The Wet Spot in NE has the best selection of plants and supplies, just an FYI. They also carry indian almond leaves, which I always keep in my tank.

Hi Shooter! The Wetspot is where I got my Yume from, as well as my yet to be named turquoise DT girl I picked up yesterday!

I often enjoy drooling over fish on aquabid. What kind of bettas did you order? I demand pictures of da bebes when you get them.

Yume- a white HM male
Akumu- a violet and red CT male
Suiko- a blue DT female
Shiruba- a silver and red CT female
And 8 male guppies

I love my fishy babies!

This is the one that will be here in about a week:

And this is the one I got a month or two ago (also pictured in my avatar, but you can see how much his color changed):

Too bad you don't need a fish still, my shipment comes in a week and there are already two friends plus myself splitting the shipping costs!

Omigawd they're gorgeous! I love the silver edging on your first boy's fins, and the spots on the blue and yellow's dorsal- Akumu has those too. It's weird little things like that that get me.

DO NOT TEMPT ME SHOOTER. I have been betta keeping for a month and I already have 3! I will get another female to keep my new girl and my guppie school company but after that I must be done.

If I got a drop dead gorgeous fish like that, I'd start thinking how fun it would be to breed it, and then I'd be up to my ears in baby bettas! I'd love to breed pure white Halfmoons... *Sigh*

Do you have any names picked out for new arrival? I am having a super hard time with naming my new girl.

Akumu- a violet and red CT male
Suiko- a blue DT female
Shiruba- a silver and red CT female
And 8 male guppies

New Girl: Suiko

So, as I mentioned earlier Nick and I picked up a betta girl from the Wet Spot a couple days ago and I have FINALLY figured out a name for her.
Meet Suiko (Japanese for water child)!

Suiko is the most active betta I have ever seen. She always swimming across the front of the tank in a very erratic manner (very similar to the 8 guppies we have her housed with actually). It was this NOTICE ME NOTICE ME NOTICE ME attitude that made it impossible to leave her.

We put her in our 10 gallon with the guppies, and it's gone really well. Really well meaning she ignores them as completely as they ignore her. She is of a similar size and color to them, I wonder how they know she is different?

We will put in another female to give her some company (probably the start of an eventual sorority, but after this I'm going to promise myself not to get anymore bettas for awhile). ;)

I wish all my news was as happy...

I am starting to get concerning about Yume. He is not so eager to interact as he once was, and instead of spending his days floating in his plants and blowing bubblenests he spends a good amount of time swimming back and forth along one side of the tank, nosing it. I have no idea what to make of this, is he looking for Akumu since we we no longer have them in a divided tank?

And Akumu is bloated (Suiko may actually be bloated too, judging from the picture). I know I tend to over feed because they don't seem to snap up most of the pellets I put in. I will fast for a couple days and hope for the best. :(
