Cool Hello from Alaska

Hi I'm Leah (And several other names). The last two months I'm not really sure what happened but I got obsessed with fish. I was in walmart one day and the little bettas stole my heart. After researching for days about the fish and tank cycling I got a cute little guy. He's a red veiltail (If petco is to be believed) And he's named Oliver. Just got him in his 10 gallon today and he's as happy as can be

This is my first betta since my mom kept one in a bowl when I was around 8 (He didn't last long, and I know much better)

Against my better judgment though I'm doing a fish-in cycle using safe start and very careful ammonia testing, due to the fact I saw Oliver at petco and He stole my heart when he flared at my phone and I just had to have him.

From what I've seen the tetra safestart should work fine enough for a fish in cycle, but if anything goes wrong ill be doing water changes and (maybe) getting another bottle incase Walmart didn't store theirs at a proper temperature for the bacteria. (It did cloud and have a bacterial bloom when I added in the safestart so, it should be okay)

Enough rambling on my part, happy to meet you all!

Hello and welcome to the forum

Animal testing is a terrible idea; they get all nervous and give the wrong answers.

Hey welcome. Oliver sounds adorable, I would love to see a picture of me your cute new guy.

Depression is just like a broken bone, they both need medical attention and it's nothing to be ashamed of. Try to write at least ten healthy and positive things that are going on in your life. You will be amazed by how effective this is.

Last night his tank light was off, but here he is now, flitting around the front of his tank. (I think he's already learned that I give him food and maybe if he stays there and looks hungry I'll feed him)

lol his learning how to beg for food. "Please feed me, I haven't eaten anything in the last ten seconds." How pitiful.

Welcome from a fellow Alaskan!

Oliver reminds me so much of one of my old bettas. So, naturally he is beautiful.
(Well, he would be anyway)

The betta in your picture is gorgeous!

Oliver is already really content in his 10gal. (By the end of the night last night he had resumed flaring at my phone whenever I tried to take a picture of him, like he did at the store) So I'm guessing it wasn't too drastic a change for him.
