Hello from Denver

New to the world of Betta's but not new to fish keeping. I grew up with tanks all over the house. My mother had Guppy tanks, Community Freshwater tanks, and a tank with housed a huge Jack Dempsey, and Oscar.

I had a 15gal Nano Reef tank which I started in 2002 and was up and running for 10 years. It was the Featured Aquarium at Advanced Aquarium online Magazine.
I wrote the article and took all the pics.

Link to the tank is here: http://www.advancedaquarist.com/2004/10/aquarium

From having that tank I know all about water changes, and doing water tests, two things I realize are very important to keep up with.

I want to do a small planted Betta tank. Just getting started, but here is what I have ordered so far. Hopefully I am off to a good start.
  1. Fluval Spec III 2.6 gal tank
  2. API Master Test Kit
  3. Prime Water Conditioner
  4. Hydor Theo 25w Heater

Thanks to this wonderful forum for getting me back into the hobby.
Looking forward to spending many hours here, learning and sharing progress as my tank comes to life.

Bob

Hello from Greeley!
If you take a look at my intro post you'll see my background in Bettas.
What area of Denver are you in?

Hi there, Bob here, I live in Cap Hill, close to downtown. Any good stores that you know of to purchase a Betta locally? I have been looking at Aquabid and might go that route. But would prefer to purchase close to home.

I haven't really had a chance to check out any stores in Denver but Animal Attractions up here in Greeley keeps a really nice selection of healthy beautiful males. They even get Plakats and monsters in. They take excellent care of them too.
They told me they get them shipped from either California or Florida. I was very impressed with their Bettas.
I got three of mine from an importer in the northeast, aquatic envy.
It will be around 6 months and I will have a few for sale.

One other thing, one of the best trans shippers in the US is in Denver. So if you decide to import your fish can be picked directly up from her.
Don't ya just love Colorado?

I saw that one of the transporters is from Denver. That would sure save a bit on the cost. I have Monday and Tuesdays off, so will go check out the shops around here. I knew were all the Reef shops were, when I had my Nano Tank up,but never looked at the Freshwater fish, only the Saltwater.

Waiting also for all my supplies to arrive. I should have them all within the next week or so. I will get the tank up and running, then hopefully within 3 weeks or so, add a fish.

Yes, I do LOVE Colorado. I moved here in '79 from Wis.

You should post a critique of the shops you visit.
I would love to read about them.
Oh, there is an IBC show in Loveland in February too, a lot of the fish at shows get auctioned off, you might check it out. I plan to.
