New to bettas

Hi guys, I am looking for a lot of help. Basically, I have been given a 125 litre fluval tank and I am looking to get a black orchid crowntail and a clown pleco.

I really need help with this because I have never kept a betta before, if possible could I please have some collective knowledge on a comfortable temperature, PH level (and how to get it there) and which plants to have in the tank, as well as recommended food and lighting options.

I hope you can help, thank you very much :)

125 litres is a decent tank size for a betta and a clown pleco. Bettas can tolerate ph levels as low as 6 but PH level of 7 would be comfortable for both species. a good temp range is around 77 and 80, a heater is needed.

it's important to cycle the aquarium otherwise it turns into an expensive messy situation.

depending on the plants you want to keep, depends on the lighting. Some plants prefer low light, some prefer medium some prefer high. Depends on what you like and what you're willing to spend on lighting.

Appreciate all the information :) thank you very much, I also got an external filter with the tank but I'm not sure if the current will be too strong for the betta?

Also with the lighting, are there colours that the black orchid has a preference to do you know or highlight its colours?

Thank you very much and sorry for all the questions haha, I just want them to be as happy as I can make them.

what kind of filter is it? If it's too much flow, you can always find ways to damp it down or go with a different filter.

as for lighting, not sure how to answer that one. Just a bright light and light colored substrate. I never thought about it that much to be honest.

Ah ok, I'll probably stick to the lights that came with it then, and for the filter I'll have to find out when I get home.

Just one more question concerning the plants, I'm guessing they need more than just the light haha, are there specialised plant foods available or do they just feed off ammonia?

Thanks :)

sorry I never did figure out how to keep plants that well. I'm the wrong person to be asking about plants.... there are others who are good at it....
