First Betta

Hello everyone,

Long story short I was convinced to buy a betta for my community aquarium. Which another long story short did not go well as she was munching my minnow's fins. I did not want to get rid of her, so I bought a fluval 3, and set it up for her. I was wondering if this setup looks good for a betta and if there is anything I should add.

I put two ghost shrimp in the tank to act as a cleanup crew and I will be adding more hornwort as soon as I feel the stems are ready to be cut from some of my larger plants in my community aquarium. The sponge on the right hand corner was placed there to restrict the flow of the pump as I read betta's do not like strong flows.

Any advice would be great :D

Looks pretty good to me! She's a cutie. About the only other thing I'd do is give her a lot more plants, and provide some top cover. Betta seem to love their plants.

Betta in community tanks can be hit or miss. I have one in my 10 gal with cory cats and a zebra danio (he's the lone survivor of his school) who co exist with them peacefully, but I have a backup tank in case he decides that he should live alone. I have another betta who I strongly suspect would reenact a massacre if I gave him fish tank mates, he does leave the snails alone thankfully.

Looks great and good choice for tank. The hornwort will be good as she can suspend herself and rest in it. I think the flow thing is a over worrying.* Is that Eco-Complete substrate? If so you could add Amazon Sword plant and Christmas Moss ball. I would add an Indian Almond Leaf, let it sink and release it's tannins and other stuff to improve the health and protect from disease.

*(I'm still a newbie) My Betta like hanging around in rough waters if there is a place with no flow as well. My personal opinion is Betta have been raised in little cups and jars and are seriously out of shape.
