Newbie Intro

Hi pplz... From Malaysia and I'm new to fish keeping and aquaplanting. Good website with a lot of information.

Got this betta together with the IKEA jar (he was pretty small) as a gift from my neighbour mid of Sept 2018 after I helped him betta-sitting when he was on vacation which I think was pretty fun and entertaining.

This guy I got is pretty cool... Always chilling all over the place and doing all the weirdest stuffs... We call him Blurp Blurp Blurp (i know, it's a weird and long name) aka Lepak King (which translates to Chill King)

After reading, youtube and researching more about bettas, I learned that I cannot keep him inside a tall glass IKEA jar which I used to do 2-3 days 100%WC
and somehow I drawn to aquascaping and aquatic plants. Got my all-in-one kit, Amazonia and plants around mid-Nov.

Will share my noob mistakes and horrors here if you all would like to know... But was a good learning experience for me and also Chill King... lol

Welcome to the forum. He is a beautiful boy. I really like his color. You made a very good decision on a larger tank. He looks happy and the plants look very healthy. If there is anything or questions you may have feel free to post and ask. The people on this forum will always help.

Hi and welcome!

He looks very prosperous and happy.
And you are doing much better with carpet plants than I am!
What species is that across the front of your tank? It looks so healthy.

70litre tank: (Kham) mature setup; betta, purple rasboras, 2 nerites, amano and wood shrimp. Heavily planted.
22litre cube tank: (Valentine); betta, 2 amano. Heavily planted.
57litre cube tank: (No Name); betta, ember tetras, 2 amano, 1 nerite, heavily planted.
200litre tank; (Valentine), honey gourami, cherry barbs, green neons, kuhli loaches, otocinclus, 4 nerite, pond snails and 1 assassin doing his thing. Heavily planted.

I think he is... more space to chill and he likes to zoom acroos the tank... lolx...
Honestly, i got no clue what species this is... i grown this from "magic carpet seed" using the Dry Start Method (DSM)
After getting them and researched more... a lot of ppl says that these will die off in 6-8months...
If it really dies... then I will replant the carpet with monte carlos...

This is how my tank looks like when I first started planting... All melted except for the anubias and the single stem on the foreground
that you see in my current tank...

Haha! Yes, he is, isnít he? And he knows it. Lol.

That stem plant looks like a pogostemum erectus, to me.

I think if you pinch the top out, you will find that it will produce side shoots, and extra stems, like it used to hace in your first pic.

Lol... I think he knows... That's why he's always busy bossing around in his tank unless he wants me to feed him... 😂 😂 😂

I think you're right about that stem plant. Yes. I intend to cut off the top once it's a bit taller or when I need to trim the carpet again...

this is a great group! Thank you so much for sharing that beautiful boy with us! I just saw a co-workers new boy - he is gorgeous. Not having a good week, so it is great to be cheered by these beautiful photos of our aquatic friends!
