Fishy “addiction”...

Hello fellow fish lovers! I have become obsessed with the sick and dying Bettas in stores (which is far too many). Sometimes, the stores just give them to me, but I’ve bought most of them. I’ve picked out the dull and depressed, the floaters, the ones with torn/frayed/missing fins, the panicked, and those laying on the bottom of their cup, barely breathing. I’ve had quite the experiences with these fish, including having one die upon arriving home and putting him in his new tank. I did tiny “chest compressions” and moved him back and forth in the water, and he came back after a long 60 seconds or so.
I continue to obtain the sickliest fish I can find, and I’ve begun adopting them out. It is thrilling to see what was once such a sad specimen transform into a brilliant beauty!
Does anyone else here share my love of these debilitated fish? I’ll share some photos. In the collages, the top images are early on, the bottom is later. These are just four of my 13 Bettas.
1st row, LEFT: “B.G.” (Bloated Guy)- I got this guy because he was floating and bloated. It took a while, but he’s much improved. He tends to get bloated easily.
1st row, RIGHT: “Crimson”- Pale and very underweight, but now bright and active!
2nd row: “Tatter”- left collage is ‘before’, right is now.
3rd row, LEFT: “Bodie”- at the store, languishing. 3rd row, RIGHT: His current condition.
4th row, LEFT: “Shark Man”- coming back to life in my hand after literally dying.
4th row, RIGHT: Shark Man today (6 months later).

Welcome to the forum.

You truly have a gift. They are all fighters, and had to have extensive care. My hat is off to you.

They turned out beautifully!

Yes, I also tend to get the worst looking betta, although every now and then I'll get a healthy, whenever I have the tank space to put one. I can't seem to leave them behind if I have room for them. I figure if nothing else they'll spent their last days in peace and comfort. Some I've managed to save but others didn't make it.
