Back to the Betta

Hi there

Just joined up. Have loved and lost 3 - 4 Betta's over my time

This will be the Second for my Fluval Edge 5 gallon (Removable Top mod)

After my last Guy passed on, I laid some substrate down, cycled the tank, even put a Big Driftwood Anubias in there..
But the loss came at a time with a lot of bad people stuff, and I never made it to the store to replace him.

Anyway....Fast fwd 18 mths, I finally ordered a little blue male in from a Breeder.

He is a relatively young Long Fin Blue Crown (or DC?), maybe you guys can tell me.

I asked for a quality Veil Tail, but I don't think Breeders touch them much anymore

Not the best photo (hes not flaring), but maybe you guys can tell me what he is..

Anyway Look forward to learning stuff and asking questions hopefully you dont mind answering
O yeh, his name is 'Bella'

Welcome to the forum and I hope you will find the information here a great help.

Bella is not a crown tail. That is for sure. If you could get a picture of him flaring it would be easy to tell exactly what he is. But right now i can safely say he is not a Crown tail.
If you go to a pet shop and look at the different tail types and the cost you would understand why breeders don't breed Vale Tail. The money is just not there unless they are selling quantity to large box stores and pet stores.

For better life of your very pretty boy Do regular water changes and keep the bottom clean of wasted food. A water temp of between 78-80 degrees is recommended. They can live at lower temps down to 76 degrees with no filtration and in smaller bowls. (not recommended by me). Feed him small portions until the belly is rounded, but not stuffed.

Hi and welcome! :)

Has the tank been empty of fish/shrimp/snails for 18 months?
If so, the cycle will start over again.
You may find the fish in cycle tutorial useful. :)

Thanks for the Statup info.
Temperature is a solid 26 (eheim Jager 25w) w Thermometer.

The filter media was from another identical established tank. I did a very short cycle with Ammonia to kickstart that.

Would have preferred to do it longer but all levels are where they should be. pH was up a bit from some rocks i put in (7.4), but it's gone down
a bit from that/am keeping an eye on it.

Ammonia and Nitrites are nill, Keeping Nitrates low with Small water changes.

Biggest concern at the moment is tank lighting. His tank location is not ideal, and despite getting
his 12 hours via a timer, And me cutting light power to 1/3rd. (The edge has a very powerful light),
I can tell he is seeing himself on the sides.
Hoping to add some silk plants on the sides to keep this is check.

Sorry i should be rationing this stuff over different posts/threads.

Been Soo long since I've had one though
