Question about Ph

Quick question about Ph. I have two aquariums, a 10 gal and a 30 gal. The 10 gal reads about 8.2, the 30 around 7.2. My water out of the faucet reads 7.8 or so. Why do I get 3 different readings off the same water? Both aquariums get their water from the same faucet. I use Prime as my dechlorinator.

How long have the aquariums been set up? Your pH generally doesn't stabilize until the tank is cycled and mature which can take a few months.

EDIT: oh and do you know the KH (Alkalinity) of your tap water?

Wilds: Wajok, Rutilans, Siamentorialis, Hendra
Leopards: Luna, Astrael, Dorian, Cullen, Gallifrey
Gargoyle: Cloudjumper
African Fat Tails: Nox and Lux
Bearded Dragon: Stormfly

The 30 gal about a month, the 10 gal I've had for years. 3-4 maybe?

I don't remember the kh, I'll check again. :)

All right, do you have any buffers in your tank like shells or crushed coral or anything?

Not that I know of. I have a few rocks, not sure what kind they are. Other than that just the regular aquarium gravel, plastic plants, and a plastic cave.
