Identify this Fish

Hi All

I'm going to be picking up a 2nd hand fish tank in a couple of weeks for a very good price for the tank size, my only reservation is that the tank includes the fish and I don't know what type this is. The seller is not sure of what fish it is either as they are having a house sale (following bereavement) so wondering if you guys can help? I think that it is perhaps a Cichlid of some sort but am not sure by any stretch.

Cheers

Thank you, yes indeed it does when I have googled it. I am also aware that there is a Malawi Golden Cichlid in the tank also.

Is the tank really big enough for Cichlids? I was looking at it for a Betta Sorority Tank (my LFS has 4 females for £7.50 at the minute)

You need a minimum of five female for a sorority or at least an odd number. And no tank smaller than a 10 gallon but preferably something 20+ gallons and heavy, heavy planting. Enough plants that give each female her own territory where she cannot see another female.

I hate to be a Debbie Downer but you need to know that sororities are extremely stressful, volatile environments and the incidences of death and disease are high. They are not recommended for beginner aquarists who may not recognize the first behavioral signs there is something wrong or may misinterpret them.

Very few on this forum report success for more than a few months. And before someone chimes in with "I have had mine for two years," note I said very few. And even most of those who have had a sorority for more than a few months do not have the same females with which they started.

If you still want a sorority, read every thing you can both pro and con so you are fully informed.

Good luck!
