I read a post today from finnfinnfriend asking about a single male guppy in a 2.5 gal tank. Well Since I didn't have that much going on today (decided to take a break from the moving in process of our new house.) I decided it would be a good time to get another 5.5 ready for one of Ma Betta Blue mustard gas baby's I thought about doing a fish less cycle, and decided to skip the hassle and do a fish in cycle. After reading the post I thought why no. So I bought a single male Lyretail male guppy. (hes no betta but will produce ammonia to start the cycle.
The tank is planted around a very nice piece of driftwood I found. I'll post some pictures tomorrow, I need to give him time to settle down. When my new baby does come, This little guy Who I named Gilford Guppy will be re-homed to a 2.5 gallon tank. I know it sounds a little hard on him but he doesn't need all this space for himself. (bad guppy dad)
Talk about having time on his hands. I also have started cycling another 10 gallon Bare bones right now but cycling. Don't know why but I had the time.
No not really I'm just thinking of restocking the 10 gal. for a community. I think I would feel quite guilty about downsizing him after he had all that space.
I wonder, I had heard that guppies life span is like 6 months??? Anybody know?
Anyway Gilford did me a favor starting a cycle for another little boy, so I really can't lock him up like that.
After reading Russell's reply about footprint it rally makes me rethink a 2.5. He is doing really well where he is. I just might have to get another 5.5 setup off the shelf and wait for the new boy from California to show up. LOL I still have 6 5.5 gal. left on my shelf and 4 10 gallon. Still don't know when I'll fill them.
You have so many empty tanks! Can I have one? 😂. Yeah I have had a guppy in my 29 gallon for a few weeks now and I am thinking that my betta is much better off in the 2.5 than he would be. He is so fast. I am also going to get him some friends soon.
Guppies live about 2 years...:: I like Russell's idea of a male guppy shoal. I am weeding out the spotted ones from the guppies I inherited, so I move them to another tank until I figure out what to do with them. Some went to a friend's pond. They are very beautiful to watch!
As for later I like Russell's idea I think a shoal of male guppies would look nice in a 10 gal. For now Gilford has one purpose and one purpose only. To cycle a tank for a soon to be Baby Blue Mustard Gas. When He comes there will be time to decide Gilford's next tank. However he will be the first fish in a new 10 gal. but this time he will have plenty of company.
