Shrimp and assasin snails

So I finishrd setting up my new tank and was starting to get a bit of a pest snail issue so i got some assassin snails and while i was at the perstore i decided to get some ghost shrimp for the tank too. It's day two with shrimp and snails in my tank and 6/10 of the shrimp are already dead. I found an assasin snail earing obe this morning and i wanted to ask... Do assassin snails kill shrimp? Is that what's happening? The pet store didn't mention anything when i said they'd be in the same tank but then again what do they know... Otherwise, any other guesses on why they're dying? My fish and snails are all fine so im just really confused at this point. Thanks in advance for any help!!

No, Assassin Snails do not kill shrimp. But they are scavengers and will clean up the bodies.

Are you sure it is their bodies and not their shed carapace? Sudden parameter/water changes can bring on molting. Do you have fish-proof places for them to molt? If not, other fish will easily kill them until the new carapace hardens.

Ghosties are "feeder" shrimp which is why they are so cheap. They are not expected to have a very long life. How did you acclimate? Shrimp are not like fish; they need slow acclimation as any sudden change in parameters from one water source to another can kill/weaken them. That is why it is not suggested to add shrimp to anything but a mature tank that has had six to eight weeks of stable parameters.

Ok that is VERY helpful, and im sure it is the dead bodies although there are quite a few shed... Carapaces? As well. There are MANY fishproof spaces however the only fish I have in the tank is a sword fry and an albino cory cat so im pretty sure it wasn't the fish anyways. It might have been poor acclamation however would that have killed them all? If they're feeders wull they live long? I like their transparent look and many of the ones i got were pregnant but i do want there to be a sustainable shrimp population. This tank will be for a betta that is coming from thailand in a week.

What are the gallon requirements for shrimp? The store says 10pg, i had 10 in a 5g, is that ok?

10 is okay. Can you post a photo of the tank you want them in? How long has that tank been cycled and parameters stable?

I always add a drop of Prime to the bags of any new fish/shrimp/snails as soon as I open them (per msjinkd's advice). This is especially important for shipped fish/shrimp.

Heres the tank. Its been up for about 2 weeks now and I used prime as the water conditioner. Its good to know to put some in the bag, im getting a fish from thailand next week and I'll definitely do that for him!

Tank is not mature enough to support shrimp of any kind. Wait until it is three or four months along to try again.
