Journal Update:

Got back from my first visit of my pet sitting yesterday. The dogs and cat were really happy to see me again. They followed me literally everywhere I went.

I did a water change on the 20H, Rajah's, and Buddy's tanks today. I have some pictures of the Cabomba's new growth, and how full the water sprite looks from above. I also got a horrible picture of my dominant male cherry barb. You can see just how deep of a red he gets, especially after a water change.
I did a 50% water change on Rajah's tank. It appars that his fugus/bacterial infection has completely cleared up *knock on wood* I'm leaving a little bit of the salt in the water to hopefully get everything cleared up with him. I'll do the other 50% on Wednesday, when I clean Buddy's tank again. Buddy got 100% water change today. Most of his bloody fin tips are cleared up. I've noticed too that he likes to poo in one area of his tank. It is kind of funny!

The reptiles are all good. I'm still deciding on the new addition after I get the 46G, and the Jackson's chameleon. I've been going back and forth between two different animals. One is more expensive than the other, but the cheaper one will need more feed...so it is a toss up. I won't be getting anything/deciding until either Repticon in November or until after I have the 46G/Jackson's chameleon set up.

*Atticus wanted to hang out the other day, so I got a picture of him on my shoulder. (also looking at Atticus's frill it appears that he might be a she...)
**I caught the baby fired up this morning.
***Sophie is currently hanging out with me.

At this point it is a neonate GTP, green tree python (expensive, but I have found a breeder that is selling some at a decent price), and a hatchling black & white tegu, or a blue tegu.

🤗 love all of those!! What size tank would you need for boa as adult?

I do too That is why I'm having a hard time deciding. Although either way down the road I'll probably end up with both. The GTP would need a 3ft by 2ft by 2ft. Which would be a tight fit on my aquarium stand with the chameleon cage; possibly over hang with the cages. The cage for when the tegu becomes an adult, which I would go with the 6ft by 2ft by 2ft, would mean I would have to eventually sell or maybe find a storage spot for the aquarium stand and also put my night stand in storage so I can scoot my bed over to make it fit. The GTP would have to wait about a year for an adult cage, while the tegu would need one possibly sooner. The tegu would also have to be feed more regularly until adulthood vs. the GTP, who would have to be feed only once a week until adulthood. GTP's are also more delicate vs. a tegu and could require vet care if not kept more precisely. So it is kind of a toss up at the moment. Plus tegu's are a lot cheaper than a neonate GTP who normally start around $500+ vs. $160+. Cage costs would be about the same. I also kind of want to get some more reptile experience under my belt before I tackle a GTP, just because of their more advanced needs; although once met they are super easy to take care of...I think you can see why I can't decide between the two :sigh: I'll probably eventually write a pros vs. cons list to make a decision.

Journal Update:

I've been petting sitting for almost the past week. Today is my last day, and tomorrow I go back home. I can't wait to see all of my critters!

I went home on Friday so I could check up on everyone, and feed the reptiles. I've been keeping an eye on Sebastian some because last week when I went to feed him I noticed that he was wheezing, which is a sign of a respiratory infection, however he didn't have any of the other symptoms like mucus coming from his nostrils, the forked part of his tongue sticking together, bubbles, etc. I noticed that sometimes you would hear it, and then others not at all. I'm thinking he might be getting ready to shed. I know that sometimes snakes wheeze right before a shed. I'm pretty sure Sampson has done it before...Other than that nothing else to report. I don't have my weekly weigh in on the baby crested because I haven't been home, and I totally forgot about it on Friday

Some good news I do have to share is I got a part time job on Friday! Hoping to start it later this week. Y'all won't believe where it is at either...Petsmart I'm going to be a pet associate for them. The lady mainly hired me because she realized my extensive knowledge on pets, and I was the only one that applied...I'm hoping I can do a good job, and help maintain the animals better because we all know how a Petsmart can be.
On a note about this though, the lady asked me to tell her about the care of a chameleon (they had a veiled there), so while I was telling her the veiled came up to the front of his window, and was just begging to be out. He was super friendly! I was almost ready to take him home...which I might do if he is still there when I get my cage up and running.

The pictures I have to share this week are of wildflowers along the Neuse River Trail. The neighborhood I'm staying at backs up to it, and the people let me borrow one of their bikes. I went out yesterday just to see what it was like, and today I took the pictures that I've posted. No idea what the names of the flowers are. I will tell you that between yesterday and today I've probably biked 10-12 miles; also I haven't been on a bike in years. The dam pictured is called Milburnie Dam.

*Oh I believe the turtles are yellow ear sliders. I'm pretty sure people feed them, because they were coming right up to me.
**The bird is a blue heron, in case you don't know.

Wildflowers are breathtakingly beautiful. Blue Herons are one of my most favorite birds!! It makes me think of Hilton Head. We saw lots of wildflowers and wildlife down there in the forest preserve. Congrats on new job! I can't wait to all about it and stories on the animals.

Yes the flowers were gorgeous! I tried to get some pictures of frog's eye, or they are actually known as day flowers, I passed some, and I was going to get a picture of them on the way back, but I never could find them again. The blue heron was nice. I tried to get more pictures of him, but he moved before I could. We actually have a pair of red tail hawks that nest in the woods behind my house. I like to hear them call.

Thanks! I'm sure there will be plenty of stories! Hopefully not too many critters follow me home

*Edit: I just noticed that the turtles are totally different species. The one with the long claws is a yellow ear slider. Not too sure about the other one.

Journal Update:

I got the 46G planted yesterday. I was waiting on my last plant, which was suppose to show up yesterday, and wouldn't you know that USPS would show up right when I needed them! As you can see in the picture my bacteria bloom is already starting. I added quick start to it. I'm hoping that it'll really cut down cycling time. I also ordered my first round of fish that I'll be adding too. I plan on quarantining them, and hitting them with general cure.

The 20G is doing really well! I missed water changes last week with everything going on, but it hasn't done anything with my parameters and definitely let the plants go crazy. I plan on giving my sponge filter a good cleaning since it looks pretty bad. The 5G has also had some growth, and I'm starting to see good root growth on the dwarf hair grass.

All the reptiles are doing good. No more signs of wheezing from Sebastian. *knock on wood* Not too sure what caused it to begin with. Him and Sampson got a nice mouse/rat for dinner last night. The baby crested is also doing well, and has gained 1g since the last time I weighed him.

As for my job with Petsmart I'm still waiting to hear back about my drug test, which isn't a concern anyways. The lab people told me it could take 3-4 days for testing...

*Buddy is showing some very pretty coloring! Today was his first day flaring for me. I was super excited to see him
**I also have some grumpy pictures of Kimchi. If you'll notice, he is getting more red in his blue bars. I'm loving it!
