Light and plant advice for 10gal bowfront

So I just picked up another aquarium, a ten gallon bowfront and I'd like to start putting in live plants instead of fake ones, but I'm not sure where to start in terms of lighting and such? I've looked around online, but whenever I see stuff about 10 gallons, it's only for the shorter ones, not a tall one like I have. I picked the tank in question up on criagslist, so I'm not 100% sure on the model, but I'm fairly certain it's this one?

I put in black sand in it and it's about 2 inches thick, can I plant anything in sand? Is 2 inches not deep enough? Should I add more? From what I understand I'll likely need root tabs and such, but once again, can I do that with sand?

Sorry if this is a lot of questions, it's my first try doing anything with legitimate plants since my previous attempts in my 35 gallon resulted in my fish eating everything within hours...

Two inches is plenty deep and, yes, you can use root tabs in 2" of sand. As far as a light, depends on what you want to spend. This would be a good one:

Do you know where you're going to buy your plants? Locally or online? What will be in the tank?

Did you have Goldfish or something that they ate the plants? A Betta won't.

@RussellTheShihTzu
Thanks so much for the reply!
I don't really have a money limit in terms of the lights because I want to make sure I'm getting a good quality one. I suppose around $60-100 would be my max, but as I said, I'm not familiar with this sort of thing just yet, unfortunately. I do like the idea of a clip light, though, and that one looks like a nice size, so I might be going with that one since you recommended it. 8)

I'm mostly going to be getting my plants from my lfs, though there's a much larger non-chain store in Milwaukee, WI that has a whole section dedicated to plants that I was planning on browsing though. I don't usually get plants or animals and such through the mail because of the abhorrent Wisconsin weather which I don't trust whatsoever, haha. I guess I'll probably start off with stuff that's easier to grow, most likely some java moss to start it off slow before moving into anubias or african water fern? The PH in my tanks is usually 7.1, I'm not sure if that makes a huge difference with plants? (As you can tell, I've been doing my best to read up on them, but I am admittedly horribly ineducated on this topic ._.' )

I'm unsure as to what to put in the tank just yet, but I was planning on either a few sparkling gourami or I might just move my king betta out of his 5 gallon once this one is cycled. I honestly haven't planned it out too much just yet because I want to give the tank ample time to mature before I make any firm decisions.

Yeah, I had two goldfish in the 35 gallon at the time. It definitely was not the best idea to add plants! To be honest though, that was 100% my fault for not realizing how voracious goldfish are. I eventually gave away the goldfish to my boss who has a large pond since they were getting a little too big for my liking with the small size of the tank though, so right now its' only home to some cories and a betta. (I set up an area in it with ledges and plants for him to rest on since I was worried he would have issues getting to the top in a 35, but he's been fine for the last year or so, so I can't complain. ;p )
