I just bought some smaller pieces of driftwood off of Etsy. Seemed like good deal :)

After I bought them I got to thinking they are red cedar driftwood from the Carolina coast. Said it can be used for fish tanks, but am wondering if cedar is safe? Does anyone know....

They are supposed to be safe for fish if aged enough (= no smell). What other people say in the seller's reviews?

Well, looks like it is a new seller and has no feedback...........guess I'll take a chance and do like you say and give it a wiff, and probably soak it for a few days.

It says it was obtained from old swamp area on the Carolina coast.
Here is a photo of the pieces. I like the small pieces for my 3 and 5.5 gal tanks they are 5-6". They look pretty "aged"

Any wood could look aged if they have been in swamp for a couple of years, I guess. When you get the pieces, you should smell them.

BTW I think boiling is better than just soaking.

Absolutely boil any driftwood.

I sell Cholla and it is harvested with a permit from government-protected land so no chemicals, pesticides, etc. I still would not put it in my tanks without boiling at least 20 minutes.
