Hello all! Happy rainy Sunday morning to you from California!

I rescued Rupert, my betta, a few months ago. He was very ill and I saved him! (I am very proud of myself) he lives in a 6.5 gallon tank that is heated and filtered. I have salt and Indian Almond Leaves in his tank.

Yesterday I bought 3 snails.
Apple Snail
Zebra Stripped nitrite snail
Trapdoor snail

I love them! I don't have much algae in my tank, as Rupert was the only occupant until yesterday. I have done a fairly good job of keeping is tank clean for him.

I am looking into foods and everything else for the snails. In a different forum it was suggested I get living plants in my tank, which I've super been wanting to do anyway!

But I need help!

I am a beginner. I know nothing. I want to move up to a 10 gallon for more space for Rupert so he can feel like it's still his domain, and so I can actually have space for live plants.

Rupert loves his floating Betta log and he has a favorite plant. That tall red one in the left corner. He sleeps and rests in that plant. I want to keep full plants in my tank so he can still hide and swim through them. He loves swimming throughout the yellow one on the right of the tank.

What are some good beginner plants I can try out? I have rocks in my tank now and I'm assuming I'm going to need "substrate" ?

I am very much into keeping his tank aesthetically pleasing for me. Let's be honest 😂
But I want it to be practical for the life living in my tank as well.

I'm moving more into black rocks and so everything else remains colorful.

Thanks for any all advice. My little aquatic family and I thank you!

Hello and good morning to ya! How's Rupert today?

Yes, a good substrate is key. The forum has many resources on easy planted tanks. Here is the STICKY (page 34) by Oldfishlady. I'm not good with plants, hah. I personally like Anubias, Water Wisteria, Banana Lilly and Java Fern. They're easy plants (imho).

It'll be high of 74 today with clear skies in Arizona hehe.

Except for the daily high in AZ. (beings it's 28 degrees and dropping with snow expected to start within the hour here in PA.
What OrchidxBetta has told you is right . Anubis, Water wisteria, Banana plants, Java fern, Or any fern for that mater are the easy plants, and are highly recommended for the beginner. In fact even for us old timers who have had planted tanks for years, I still love those plants. They are a good barometer as to the health of your tank. and all the water conditions.,
