The mesh in the reptile hood I linked is easy peasy to cut. I made one hole big enough for the plug and snaked both filter cords and the heater cord through it.

You can also use Krylon Fusion Clear. I did that with a floating Betta log to keep it from peeling. But make sure it's Fusion. If colored, matte or shiny works. Shiny reflects better.

Oops, almost forgot: Get the clips and use on back half if you get the hinged hood.

Did you cut through the mesh or like the rim of it? Cause for a while in my current hood I had craft mesh over the openings and I had holes cut for the cords to go through and I didn't like that setup cause whenever I took the hood off it was attached to the cords unless I unplugged everything and pulled it through. I'm very lazy and clumsy lol

What do the clips do? Hold it down?

Because my mesh hood was hinged I seldom had to remove it. When I did I just slid it back down over the cords; didn't unplug or pull back through the hole I made. Hope that makes sense.

Oh, I cut through the mesh at center back so there was only one hole for both cords.
