Hi all,

My tank is a bare bottomed, unfiltered, 3.2 gallon tank with many plants. I set it up on Tuesday, and I put my new guy Kenda in on Wednesday. I siphon out about a gallon to vacuum out poop and dirt when necessary, usually every other day, and replace with clean water.

Yesterday I noticed what looked like dust balls or small greyish white fuzzy looking tiny clumps sitting on leaves and the floor of the tank. Any idea what this is? I will post pics.

(I gently shook the leaves and the fuzzies came off and drifted down to the floor of the tank, and I siphoned it out. So they are not sticky. It doesn't retain its fuzzy structure when out of the water.)

Could it be algae? Should I be worried?

Can be mulm (organic debris).

Ah, good. So just shaking it off of the leaves and vacuuming up most of it is okay?

Could it indicate that I am using too much Flourish Comprehensive? I am putting in two drops a day...

I don't think you are dosing too much Flourish. When you see algae bloom, it's time to wonder if you are dosing too much fertilizer.

**From AquariumWiki**
Mulm (also called detritus) is the organic debris that builds up in and on the aquarium substrate.
Mulm is usually the unattractive dark brown or black material that settles on the substrate of a tank. It is caused by the waste material ejected by the aquarium animals and left over food and decomposing plants.
In a tank this mulm is slowly digested over months up by the bacteria living there and is broken apart into useful chemicals that plants and other life living in the gravel can absorb.
While non-planted tank owners often remove this material to keep their tanks clean, it is rich in essential chemicals for plants, so planted tank owners rarely remove it.
