Nice looking betta you have there. I'm not an expert, but they appear okay from the photo. Do you have a closer snapshot?

Thank you, my phone is awful I can try to get a better one . Basically his very back fins are looking a little ragged but I’m having tough time deciphering if he bit or damaged or it’s rot starting.

Looks like fin biting to me, and he may have also managed to tear the caudal (tail) fin, either that or he's bitten further into it then the other parts of his fin.

The picture is not bright enough, and clear enough, for me to tell if he also has some fin rot going on. What you can do for him is make sure his water is clean by doing 25 to 30% water changes 2x a week and adding some StressGuard and Indian Almond Leaves to the water. The StressGuard has an antiseptic in it the will bind to the wounds and prevent infection, and the IAL will also help prevent infections and help him heal.

Or, he could have Crown Tail genes. When you can get a better shot it will help.

I'd forgotten about combtails. They just don't sell those around here and I've only seen them in a couple pictures.

No, you do not see them much. And I was leery of suggesting since he is a DT.

Need a "before" photo to compare. And can you indicate the area that is starting to look strange?

He has always had some spike to his fins but now he’s just looking ragged. Mostly the ends in between the two tails.

They are called "lobes;" not tails.

It looks to be biting or damage as the missing chunks are more u-shaped.

How long have you had him? When did you notice the change in his fins?

If those are plastic plants those may be the culprit. But I think it may be too much open space and not enough shady areas to rest in. That seems to be one of the common denominators on this forum in addition to the lights being too bright.

Thanks lobes now I know lol... Had him since May of this year... when not taking a picture he has led lights on a blue darker setting. I’ve had those plants in since the beginning and this is recent I noticed his fins last week or so . I think he is biting... its frustrating they start biting after months of seemingly being ok. One of my VT has the most beautiful tail now he looks short finned. His tank is in the quietist darkest room and has the most cover.... none the less he keeps on chomping it off once it grows back. I’ll look for some more silk plants and see if that helps.thanks.
