Hello I got a betta a few months ago and ever since I got him he always swims directly at the side of the glass he like rams his mouth into the side of the tank. It's very strange I have had multiple bettas but I have never seen one do this. I looked it up and I think it's called like glass surfing or somthing similar to that. I heard it could be because of poor water quality but I have checked my water multiple times and I always comes back perfect. Any ideas on why my betta might be doing this? I have him in a 5 gallon planted aquarium with a small sponge filter. Thank you! I also vape sometimes in my room i dont know if that could have somthing to do with it I always try to vape on the other side of the room and blow it away from my fish tank.

Sometimes they glass surf because they see their reflection. Try putting a dark towel on the side of the tank where he does the most surfing and see if it helps.

BTW, in all the years I have had Betta I have heard a lot of theories on why they glass surf but never that it is water quality. I will have to add that to my "Here's a New One" list.

oh I got really confused because I have a thread of almost the same name. Except my problem is different my little guy who usually hangs at the front and sometimes glass surfs but now hes acting afraid and darting from the front when I walk in which I find "strange" but I suppose that is relative to how your fish is typically. I have other fish who glass surf I've tried everything they still do it and are otherwise healthy with occasional tail biting here and there.

Thank you! This actually worked! Hes is finally swimming around and exploring! How long should I leave the towel there for?
