I put a little decapsulated eggs in water, swish and let it sit for 5-15 minutes, shake and pour directly into the tank. They figure it out.

I use golden pearls and decapsulated brine shrimp eggs, and I start alternating at 2 weeks of age with BBS. I do not mix with brine shrimp, although I have heard others do. Instead I rely on them being hungry for their dinner.

I do one batch every 24 hours (which means two hatcheries running at all times) but I have not gotten the feeding amount quite figured out yet. I am going to try one of those in-tank BBS hatcheries on the next spawn.

The sponge filter is in and running the whole time. I no longer take it out. The plastic tube is left in and the water is lowered to a little below the tube so it doesn't disturb the water. Even if the air is going only a little up the tube, it's better than nothing. The vinegar eel culture seems to be depleted after about 5 days and needs to be refreshed at that time. I start the transition from live to powdered fry food at 2 weeks (that is what I alternate with BBS) and start them on frozen food at 5 weeks.
