I am in coastal north carolina, I forgot to mention. Fagan seemed okay for a day or two but then went down hill in lethargy and not eating. The meds and epsom did nothing. I think I was four days in when I took him to the vet. I still feel guilty I didn't act sooner. I kept wishing the bloat away...I still miss him, even though I have five more. He was stunning.

Thank you for responding. I went to an emergency vet who said she would try. It did not go well. She injured him internally. He bled out internally overnight and died. She said she did not believe it was fluid though because all attempts at aspiration got nothing. It was terrible. I hope I never see another fish go thru that again. I,am sorry for your loss also.

I have an emergency with dropsy - please how did you find a vet to do the aspiration?

Actually I need to add my betta babies to the album....those pics I put there because my guy was sick and trying to get help for him! But no breeding going on here! I got Clyde from Pet Supplies Plus and he was in bad shape. He's a gorgeous dalmation spade tail...I also refer to him as my koi boy but I'm not sure if that really applies LOL

Your betta babies are so cute, did you breed them yourself? What tail type where the parents? :)

Hiya! Thought I'd respond to you here :)

If he's active and eating, those are great signs. I don't know much about dropsy so I can't tell if there's any warning signs with his appearance. I know you're worried, but try to go easy on the medication/additives - it's just a lot for him to suddenly be exposed to, it may do more harm than good. So, I'm not sure, but I wouldn't use the betta revive right now, and maybe not even general cure. If he's constipated, epsom salts will help. And if he is in the beginning stages of dropsy, epsom salts will help that, too. Idk if you have, but check out the "Betta Fish Diseases and Treatments" thread.

Just like the OP, lay off the feeding for a while. If he passes something soon and his belly goes down, but he's still a bit bloated, you can try giving him some frozen brine shrimp - they love them and they're full of fiber.
