Haha, I know right? I wonder where they get these from. there's always a good selection. especially a chain store. I find the prettiest dragon scales from this store too :)

6 bucks??? Wow! I assumed he was from a breeder, actually. You're lucky your store gets suck nice fish! I would definitely buy him if I saw him lol. But that's coming from me XD.

Yay! thanks for the analysis. I was curious about the quality of betta fish popping up in petland discounts recently. They have some pretty decent elephant ears too. not like petco which only provide EEs in blues and reds. their plakats are $6 and this one seems quite young too...

    Of course!

He looks pretty good to me. The color is awesome, not sure how it would be placed in a show but it looks amazing. Form wise there aren't many issues, but the anal gets that spike at the right end and is rounded on the left edge, so if he was to be bred you would want a female with a good anal. His topline isn't bad (HMPKs don't have to have the smooth topline HMs do, it can be rounded like his is). Overall one good looking fish.

Maybe you can help me out too. What do you think about this betta? It's for a friend. I'm thinking his topline isn't ideal and the edges of his fins aren't even...
    any good points?

Heh~ totally up to luck then. since Canadian weather is cooler, you definitely have more of a chance. If it does survive in good condition, do let me know how the sender packaged it :)
