trahana I haven't had goldfish in years, but I remember they are very easily stressed. Could it be the ammonia has spiked much higher? I suggest getting some instant cycle bacteria, and be dousing the tank with prime to neutralize the ammonia(it will still register in ammonia, but will no longer hurt your fish)

Also, what did you use to disinfect the tank?

Help with a Ryukin Goldfish!

Hi All,

First off... its been years since I've been active on this forum so I apologize this is how I'm coming back into things. Not much has changed. I still have bettas and adore them but about 3 weeks ago i got a Calico Ryukin and I'm unfortunately not as well versed in goldfish diseases as i am with betta ones.

Is your Goldfish still eating? - yes
Have you started treating your Goldfish? If so, how? - yes, I did. I did an 90-95% water change and then started kanaplex
Does your Goldfish have any history of being ill? no
How long have you owned your Goldfish? 3 weeks
Was he or she ill or suffering some sort of damage when purchased? not that I was made aware.

Backstory, this fish came from my very trusted and loved local fish store. they knew I was looking for a goldfish and let me come in the day the received their shipment. I picked out a fish and that fish was put it in his own quarantine tank at the store for 4 weeks. After 4 weeks, I was told he was healthy and I could take him home.
Yesterday morning he was acting completely fine. I am doing a fish-in cycle right now. I test the water daily and ammonia has never gone above .50. The night before I did a 50% water change. I came home from work to see him sitting on the floor of the tank with his fins clamped and his slim coat was shedding off like crazy. I immediately did a 90-95% water change (I basically change as much water as possible) and I started kanaplex. I did this because my previous goldfish had died from similar symptoms and after a biopsy it was discovered it was due to a bacterial infection. So I assumed it was the same thing with my current goldie. (note: the tank is the same as the old fish but I disinfected and completely let the tank air dry and then cleaned it again before resetting up and adding my current fish). With in two hours of the water change and starting kanaplex, my goldfish had completely shed his silm coat and was acting basically normal.... This morning i woke up and he is acting completely normal.

does anyone have any insight into what is going on? I unfortunately don't have any photos as i wasn't really thinking about that while I was doing the water change and starting treatment.
