Rana I agree that the fins and bodyshape look male to me, but I always advocate looking for ovaries to be completely sure. Since this betta is light-bodied, it should be easy enough to tell, just shine a flashlight at them from behind. If there's a big triangular shadow behind their stomach, they're a female and if there's not, they're male!

And yes probably a delta tail, their fins may grow into a full HM spread when they're mature but I would be surprised. Very cute either way! :)

indjo Looks like a he - large dorsal and long ventrals.
He has 4 rays, so he can't be a VT nor round tail.

His caudal and anal fins are too big to be a PK. He is either a "failed" HM (HM x HM doesn't produce 100% HM) which makes him a DeT OR a mix between long fin and short fin and turned out to have "in between" fins (too short for a long fin but too long for a PK).

Since he is supposedly a baby, his fins should still grow. I'm guessing he is a long finned DeT.

ChristineF713 We think also that it's most likely a he and could be a plakat tail type. It's funny, years ago we also had a mislabeled petco baby, but ours was labeled as a male and turned out to be a female, who we lovingly had named Jasper. We kept the name though as she was still a shade of blue that the name still kind of fit. Beautiful baby though, congrats!

RussellTheShihTzu Welcome to the Forum!

I agree: She looks like a "he" to me. But don't count on me because I've been wrong once already this year.

If that is is he, he is a very nice looking Betta.

Baby "girl"???

Went to Petco to find a couple "baby girls" to add to my sorority tank. Picked out 2 who were active and healthy looking. One, I thought, had beautiful finnage and color for a girl. Lucky me! Got home and she (he) started flaring and definitely looked and acted different from the other girls. One of the baby girls I bought definitely has an ovipositor and stripes of a young female. This one, not! I'm thinking I got a mislabeled "baby girl". Any thoughts as to sex and tail type?
