FM beta tank mates that work.

I have a beta sorority of 5 FM betas that are very happy with their tank mates in my 55 gal tank. Tank mates consist of 6 cory's, 6 Tiger Barbs and 6 Serape Tetras. Tank is heavily planted with lots of hiding and escape type places. They have been together for a several months now and don't exhibit any problems with each other or their tank mates.
It's one of those things you have to try and see how it works out.

midnight+thegirls Sorry, the picture didn't attach. I bought one bamboo thing for now. I bought another hide hole, and a tiny live plant. Im gonna try to attach a picture of my tank now. Im thinking about buying another bamboo thing tomorrow, cause i love the look of this one. I didnt get the name brand bamboo thing cause i found one at petco that was half the price, i realize it isnt as tall, so when i buy another one, its going to be the name brand bamboo.

Btw the green net in the picture is my sisters baby bettas. She bred hers and she was just putting them in my tank until they're older.

RussellTheShihTzu The bamboo flows across the top to offer upper level places to hide and rest. (See first photo). The more surface area covered the better. That's why I suggested two. I wouldn't cut if you get one.

Couldn't get on Betta Fish until now. Problem was on my end.

What did you decide to get?

midnight+thegirls Okay! So I did some amazon shopping, and before I checkout, are all of these good? I wanted to get some live plants as well cause they are supposed to be good! I think one bamboo thing will be fine cause my tank isn't 3 ft, so I can cut the excess off, and bury it under the rocks and. I'm on the fence about the grass stuff. The hide holes are fine though, right?

I know youre still working on the aquascaping but..... mollies should work but if you want to fit more I would reccomend platys- theyre pretty much the same only half the size. I think its 1 gal per in, for bettas id say 2 gal since theyre more territorial/aggressive. So if youre planning on 5 bettas then you could have 4 mollies or about 8 platys, if my maths right. I had an african dward frog and theyre good but you never see them-theyre always hiding- but ive heard if theres more cover for them to hide in then theyre less timid and might come out more. From my experience,Some good tankmates are platys, guppies, swords, and bottom feeders like cory cats , octocatfish, plecos and loaches. Not yo mention shrimp and snails which are great and you can fit more per gal (10 shrimp per gal) AND shrimp csn actually end up REDUCING the bioload if theres enough of them! You can also always have more than one kind of fish like say 3 guppies 5 platys and a sword (ive heard swords can breed with platys and the females look the same) although i didnt do the msth on that. I know this is alot of info to take in all at once so i appologise for the essay 😂

RussellTheShihTzu I'd start with two of those plants; one on each side. Plants are hides, too.

If you can find half-pots terra cotta those are really good. So are Cichlid caves or stones (Google both). Pleco spawning caves need to have an opening on both ends. Not sure about the opening for shrimp tubes; you'd have to contact the seller.

midnight+thegirls I have Amazon prime so its only 9.75 I'm diffidently going to buy that. Thanks for your help! Should I still buy the barrel thing/more hide holes? Or are the plants enough?

RussellTheShihTzu Yes, I love that plant. And, in the scheme of things, it is not that expensive. If you have Chewy autoship you can add to that; or ship free with Amazon Prime. If you have neither, the least expensive is $11.40 on eBay with free shipping. If you scroll down there is one Best Offer and free shipping.

When females are sold they are sexually immature. When they become mature they start acting more aggressively toward each other. This is why so many people are surprised when the sorority goes down the dumper really fast.

It is my understanding that tanks packed with plants have a much better chance of success...also, the bigger the tank so 25 gallons is good.

midnight+thegirls Ok! Ill look into that plant.

I found some plants that wern't being used and added them to the tank!
Should i be worried about the girls? They aren't fighting much anymore. They like to 'school' together at the top of the tank, but Blue has a small injury on her back fin.

Lets try the picture again. :/

Before you get any fish spend you $$ to pack the tank with plants. This is a really good plastic plant. I bought one to see if it is soft enough to work with Betta and it is. Called "Bamboo" and, I believe, is made by Marineland.
