indjo Not sure about other areas. In my area, bettas are basically classified into 3-4; SQ (show quality), grade A, regular/rejects (some divide them into two - rejects and culls). This classification isn't normally mentioned when selling. It comes up in discussions.

To determine what each class should look like, study IBC criteria - both form and color. . . . . An individual may show ideal form but color/s are off. That would place it in grade A. Usually SQs are not sold.

Galaxy "should" be partial dragon scales that show metallic "dots" on body. The creator thought of it to be similar to stars - hence the name galaxy. However there are lots labelled as "galaxy" or "koi" for that matter, that IMO doesn't fit the criteria.

TBH, I don't bother with new commercial names. Especially if it doesn't breed true. This is merely my own personal opinion, not popular consensus. The quality of galaxy should thus show "stars" and have good form. Anything less, reduces its quality.

Question from the new guy

Hi,

I'm new here. It's been over 10 years since I kept and bred betta. Im thinking about getting back to this hobby, but I notice some ppl are selling them by grades. How do you determine if they're AAA etc? Seems like the "galaxy" are very popular now. How do you determine the quality/grade of a galaxy betta, is there a certain pattern of colors that enthusiast are looking for?

Thanks,
