Welcome Home, Penfold!

I just brought home my new baby Betta, I've named him Penfold. :-D He's a white and silver(?) half-moon -- it's hard to see what his color really is through the blue water in his cup. His fins are very pretty, though, clearish white, with silver "pleats"? I'll take pictures soon...

At the store, I was torn between him and two other half-moon Bettas. There was a beautiful greenish-blue one with a velvety black face and beautiful flowy fins, and a blue one with red & white fins. In the end I chose Penfold because he was the most feisty of the three. But it took me a while to decide, they were all so pretty.

Penfold is still currently in the cup, which I'm floating in his jar to acclimatize him to his new home. He's very feisty, he can see there's more space under his cup, and he keeps trying to swim down into it. Patience, my dear little Penfold.

Pretty fish!

He is beautiful! Though he looks more like a delta to me...

Thank you, Bloo, Baylee! :-D
At the store, they told me Penfold was a half-moon, but I looked through the photos in the Color/Tail sticky here, and I think I agree with you Baylee, he looks more like a delta. But he's still just a baby, how much do their tails change as they get older? Also, does anyone know if the blue color in the water can "stain" their fins? I'm finally getting most of the blue water out of Penfold's cup, and there is a definite blue tint to his fins...

For a little bit, a few mintues to a few hours... but nothing long. I had a clownfish with ich and we put her (female) in methalyne (hooray for spelling) blue for 5 minutes, and her nostrils were stained for half an hour  but I'm sure after awhile of colorless water he'll lose it.

he may become a HM later on. Mine started delta, but I let him flair to when he stretched out into a HM!

Yes their fins definitely do grow as they reach maturity, so your guy might be a hm, it's hard to tell with the young ones! He looks so pretty, i can't wait to see pictures when he's not in the blue water!

Thanks everyone! The blue tint is gone from his fins now, but when the sun hits him just right, he shimmers green & blue!! And his fins are actually peach colored, not white at all! And his swimming fins are completely clear, nearly invisible.

Another quick question - how much do I feed him? I gave him one pellet this morning cuz he's still so small. He's about the size of my pinky and 2/3 the length, not including his fins. One pellet is enough, right?

He sounds beautiful!
