Is there a reason my betta hangs out by his bubble nest? Is he "protecting" it?

I've had Jack Skellington for almost over a month now, and I've noticed he's made little bubbles but not a bubble nest....until now. I've been in my room most of the day and didn't notice this sucker up until now. Holy cow he must've been working at it all day and I didn't reconize it!:-)
