I'm planning on doing one later this week and want to know exactly how I should go about this?

I'm also thinking of 3 water changes a week. 2 50% and 1 100%. Would that be too much for my 2.5 gal tank?

I don't think it would be too much but frequent water changes can stress a betta. I would do the one 50 and one 100. I use the cup my guys came in and scoop them carefully into that and put on the lid. Then I dump the old water and rinse everything in the tank in hot water, refill with clean conditioned water and let it warm up. Then I float the betta in his cup for 10 to 20 minutes to let him adjust to the temp then release. I am not really sure how to go about the 50 because I do 100's in my smaller tanks. Theres a few ways you could do that. you could remove him and do the water change and acclimate or you could syphon the water out and add it with him in which seems like it would be less stressful. Just make sure the water being added is the same temp.

It's nice that you already had experience in this. My dad never let me help with anything fish related as a kid so I had to practice what I saw him do and learn on my own.

lol. my aunt was like "FREE LABOR I DONT HAVE TO DO IT MYSELF. YES!"
And my 10gal was my own. I was responsible for it through and through.
